About Karen Kawawada
About Karen Kawawada
I’m a Canadian journalist and communications specialist now based in Oxford, England. For years I was a reporter for a mid-sized daily newspaper, where I covered everything from murder to education. I have also been a parenting columnist, video journalist for a national bilingual (English/French) show, copy editor, event planner and researcher.
Most recently I have been working in communications for a small Oxford-based NGO. Prior to that I was a communications officer for the University of Waterloo, where I developed a communications strategy for the Faculty of Environment, assistant edited the alumni magazine, media trained senior leaders, and produced news releases, web copy and videos.
I have a Master of Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in international development studies and English. In addition to the UK and Canada, I’ve lived in Japan, Australia, Ecuador and France and speak French, Japanese and Spanish.
When I’m not writing or chasing around my two young daughters, I enjoy gluten-free cooking, travelling, and not-too-hardcore outdoor pursuits such as hiking, cycling, skiing and snowboarding.
